Kronborg Castle, known worldwide for Hamlet and Shakespeare, is one of the most beautiful Renaissance castles in Northern Europe.
The history of the castle goes back to the time of Shakespeare. Around 1420, Danish King Erich of Pomerania built a strong fortress, Krogen. This fortress secured the profitable collection of the “Sund inch,” a tax that would fill the royal treasury over the next 400 years.
